Commodore’s Corner

Commodore 2019-2019 | Jim Miller

Fellow Members,

First let me start by saying what an honor and privilege it is to be writing this as the MYC commodore. It was something I never dreamed of, but am so thankful that I have the opportunity to do so. My wife and I joined the club in 2003 when we had one small child and one on the way. Our children are now 15 and 17! I remember juggling 2 small kids, the demands of being a commercial fisherman, family obligations and then being asked ‘to volunteer during your spare time’. My wife and I used to joke around that we didn’t know what those words meant -‘spare time’. I am here to tell you all, that I am so grateful that we found that elusive ‘spare time’. Getting involved at the club was one of the best things we did for our family. The friends and memories that we have made and continue to make are those that my wife and I cherish. So with that being said, it is my wish for you all, that you find “spare time” for each other and the club to ensure that we can all make this club the best it can be.

I have a lot of energy and ideas to sprinkle over the next 2 years. I believe that I have the best Board of Governors who will share my same enthusiasm, and energy to keep this club moving in the right direction.  The nice balance of having veteran members and newer members on the board, all working together is a perfect combination to keep the traditions strong but also allows for some new ideas to come in.

One of my main priorities during my term is to renovate the kitchen for all of our members to enjoy while participating in dinner meetings, hosting an event or having a private party. This will take some fundraising and a lot of team work to make it happen. This summer, as always, we have many great activities planned for the adults and the kids. There will be various bands as well as food trucks here on Friday nights,  adult sailing lessons, swim lessons, kids night, corn hole, as well as just lounging by the pool. Bring your friends and family and enjoy what our club has to offer.

In closing, I want to thank everyone who works tirelessly to keep our club running smoothly. I hope to see everyone taking full advantage of what our little, but awesome club has to offer.

Hope to see you ‘down at the club’

Jim Miller
