Originally, the Member of the Year was picked by the Editor of the Newsletter. Since 1992 the Commodore has chosen the Recipient.

2008 Winner - Bruce Grimminger

Bruce Grimminger - As we all know, last year we lost Bruce in a tragic boating accident. Many considered him the Mayor of Center Moriches; Bruce was a great guy who was always willing to lend a hand here at the club. He was a businessman, but volunteered a great deal of his time repairing our engines, hauling docks and boats and preparing them for winter storage. He did all this with a genuine smile on his face. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Aimee, friends and our club.

2008 Winner - Melanie and Michael Oswalt

Mike and Melanie Oswalt - Also, it is my pleasure to give well deserved recognition to this fun and hard-working couple. They are a true example of what active club involvement is all about. Besides her contribution as Secretary to the Board of Governors Melanie, along with Mike have contributed their time and support to many club projects and social events. They are true advocates of our sailing program, pitching in whenever they are able. The impact of their positive attitude has been clearly felt by all who come in contact with them.

My last official duty as Commodore is selecting the 2008 “M.Y.C. Member of the Year”.

In case you haven’t noticed, we have a great group of people at this club; so it wasn’t an easy task selecting from such a broad base of supportive members. So again I have chosen an individual person and also a couple from the membership.

This year, I would like to recognize the efforts of Bruce Grimminger, and Melanie and Michael Oswalt.
